They say anything you did before 25 was a free pass. Ok that may be an exaggeration. But up until your mid twenties, your skin is in its prime! Under 25? Live it up! Over 25? Time to listen up! As we age, the collagen and elastin decrease. Causes? Damage from the sun, pollutants, poor diet, smoking (please quit now!!!) and alcohol consumption (no champagne…how will we survive!?!). These all cause wrinkles and an uneven texture. Also starting in your early thirties, collagen production slows down and the type of collagen you produce is far less effective. The enzymes in your skin that are in charge of cleaning up damaged collagen fibers continue to breakdown old collagen. But the problems is that the new collagen fiber production can’t quite keep up. The result? Aging skin, fine lines, wrinkles and loss of tone (say it isn’t so!!!)
But were not just here to give you all bad news. We have some tips for you!
Protein! Lack of protein ages the skin more visibly. We recommend eating an adequate amount of protein rich foods for getting the nutrients you need to produce new collagen fibers. The amino acids that make up proteins are what the fibers are made up of! So time to load up on fish, poultry, lean meats and eggs!
Vitamin C! Next step? Converting the amino acids into a usable form of protein to make the collagen fibers. This is the job of a diet rich in vitamin C!
Antioxidants! Fruits and veggies are important to protect your cells from free radical damage that leads to aging.
Stimulating Collagen! How do we do that??? Vitamin C applied topically not only has a positive effect on collagen production, it also helps fade brown spots and pigmentation.

Lets start off. For those of you who are new to the skincare game, or who have been living under a beauty rock, the Clarisonic is a tool sold at specialty beauty stores, spas (including Facialworks) and online. It oscillates back and forth over the skin. Its claim: ‘to remove six times more makeup than cleansing by hand” However, I like to think of it as an exfoliating tool to lift off dry skin cells and remove makeup.

If you’re considering purchasing one, here are some facts to help you decide!
Fact 1: Skin Trauma: Sometimes a good thing!
You never want to exfoliate to the point of destroying healthy, living cells. However, when you give the skin trauma, it then goes into repair mode and stimulates cellular regeneration. This is extremely beneficial to the skin! But doing so too often by over-exfoliating can trigger premature aging and cause radical damage. So use with care, caution and by the direction of your esthetician by the recommendation for your specific skin type!
Fact 2: Clean Skin is good…But not too clean!
I know, this sounds a little crazy. But here is the deal. Although you do want your skin hygienically clean, it doesn’t need to be eat off the kitchen floor spotless! There is a certain amount of good bacteria that your skin needs to continue functioning in a healthy way. So we recommend using non-drying, sulfate free cleansers with your Clarisonic!
Fact 3: Dryness…and how keep it from happening!
Being too aggressive in your exfoliating can cause extreme dryness and disrupt the skins lipid barrier. This is what allows the moisture to seep out of the cells easily. We recommend our new Barrier Repair in our Hydra Works line…if you’re over exfoliating. For added moisture, the Organic Super Serum and the Clear Moisture are also great options!
Do not forget that in order to get best results from your Clarisonic and avoid over-exfoliating, over-cleaning, inflammation and the spread of bacteria, be sure to only use you Clarisonic a 2-3 times a week and to wash it with anti-bacterial soap BEFORE each use.
